Temple | Coachella

Temple, or Sanctuary, features a colonnade of reflective pillars encircling a dark, shaded interior lined in soft black fabric with a single large cushion at its center (akin to Chamberlain’s Barge Marfa, 1983).

The mirrored colonnade turns the surrounding festival into a hyper-visual environment — shifting and fragmented reflections create unexpected encounters as visitors move through it. The hushed sanctuary at the center offers the opposite: a tactile, enveloping space to gather, sink down, and rest.

Temple Coachella: A large outdoor event with many people gathered on a grassy field, featuring an art installation composed of tall, reflective vertical pillars.

Thought of as an immersive environment more than an object, it is meant to be experienced and engaged with by moving through it, leaving the mediated world of our phones and connecting to each other.

The space at the center could be activated by artists akin to Erykah Badu’s sound meditation, Monday Ceremony.

It would be cool to use transducers to add haptic vibration to the shaded space in the center.
