Sullivan Projects is a New York-based architecture and design studio led by Anthony Sullivan. Founded in 2018, the practice brings experience across cultural, residential, educational, retail, workplace, and civic realms.
Central to our work is an interest in how architecture can shape our experience and enrich our daily lives. We are preoccupied with design’s ability to enhance our well-being, create moments of awe, bring joy, spark curiosity, and offer a sense of serenity and belonging.
Our practice is obsessively inquisitive. Through close listening and careful observation, we create unique and thoughtful designs that arise from a rigorous, highly collaborative process of immersing ourselves into the specific conditions, ambitions, and realities of each project.
We approach every project from a broad perspective, synthesizing social, cultural, and environmental explorations with inventive technical and functional solutions. The result is an architecture that is distinct in character, clear in concept, precise in execution, and grounded in lived experience.
Anthony Sullivan AIA, NCARB | Founder and Principal
Anthony Sullivan is a licensed architect with over two decades of experience in realizing innovative projects. Driven by an insatiable curiosity, Anthony approaches architecture as a vehicle to enhance human experience and enrich daily life, combining relentless refinement with a meticulous attention to detail.
Anthony’s practice is energized by the intersections of art and science, and is engaged by questions of consciousness and perception - drawn to the thought of Antonio Damasio, Francisco Varela, and Evan Thompson - and other obsessively curious minds - artist Robert Irwin, football managers Pep Guardiola and Johan Cruyff, and chef Ferran Adrià.
His approach draws on the relationship between broad, ambient awareness and focused attention — the movement from lantern consciousness to spotlight consciousness — and sees this shift as central to the creative process: beginning with openness, sensitivity, and discovery, then gradually sharpening toward precision and clarity.
Prior to founding Sullivan Projects, Anthony worked with several leading architecture and design practices, including Farshid Moussavi Architecture in London, Rafael de Cárdenas, and SOM in New York.
Anthony earned a Master of Architecture degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Design — where his work was published in Platform 5, Platform 6, and Interdisciplinary Design: New Lessons from Architecture and Engineering — and a Bachelor of Architecture with honors from Auburn University.
Born in Philadelphia and raised in Birmingham, Alabama, he received a Visual Arts diploma from the Alabama School of Fine Arts. Strong memories of encounters with Albert Bierstadt’s Looking Down Yosemite Valley, California, and Robert Irwin’s Untitled disc at the Birmingham Museum of Art instilled the importance of light, atmosphere, and experience. He further draws upon his family history - his great-grandfather, F.W. Weber, was an artist and chemist who developed many widely used artists’ materials that remain available today.
